HAMMOND, Ind. – Purdue University Calumet’s Tierra Turner was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, after garnering Inn of Hammond All-Classic team honors. The Peregrines swept the conference’s weekly honors this week, as Michael Patton claimed the award on the men’s side.
The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 22 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4 steals per game this week, helping the Peregrines to a 1-1 mark on the week. She opened the classic with a dominating performance against Huntington, pouring in 26 points to go along with her 6 assists and 4 boards. The Merrillville native followed that with her ninth double-double of the year, tallying 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in an 89-69 win over Goshen.
Turner tops the Black and Gold and the CCAC in nearly every major statistical category this season, tallying 20.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists per game on the year. She also ranks in the top three in the conference in steals with 2.9 thefts a night.
HAMMOND, Ind. – Purdue University Calumet’s Michael Patton was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, after guiding the Peregrines to an 89-85 victory over Alma. The Peregrines swept the conference’s weekly honor for the second time this season, as Tierra Turner claimed the award on the women’s side.
The 6-foot-5 forward pulled down a season-high 19 rebounds in the Black and Gold’s double-overtime win over Alma, while also tallying 14 points and two assists in the game. Patton followed that performance with a 10-point, 5-rebound effort in Purdue Calumet’s near upset of Western Illinois on Saturday that included an eye-popping dunk in traffic.
The Gary, Ind. native is averaging 9.3 points per game this season, while leading the CCAC in rebounding with 7.2 caroms a night. He recently became just the third player in school history to tally over 600 rebounds and 200 assists in a career, as he ranks ninth on PUC’s all-time list in both statistical categories.
The CCAC weekly recognition is the second of Patton’s career and the fifth for the PUC men’s team in the past two seasons.
