Tough Second Half for UIS
ST. LOUIS – Freshman Alyssa Palmer set a new career-high in points with 19 Monday evening, but the Illinois-Springfield women’s basketball team fell to Maryville 70-61 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Prairie Stars (4-12, 0-9) came out shooting 41 percent in the first half and held a lead of six midway through the first half. However, the Saints (7-9, 2-6) forced UIS to shoot 2-of-8 late in the period and it also turned the ball six times over during that same span.
UIS fell victim to cold shooting in the second half, as it was hitting on just 11-of-29 in the period. Maryville, meanwhile, caught fire in the stanza, as it finished with a 48 percent clip, while also hitting 12 free throws.
Behind Palmer was junior Bailey Beale, who had 12 points, while freshmen Megan Bergerud and Mallory Beck finished with 11 and 10 respectively. Leading all scores in the game was Abby Duethman of Maryville who scored 18
