NEW CASTLE – Eighteen women have been named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2011 Silver Anniversary Team, based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago.
The team includes the 13 members of the 1986 Indiana All-Star squad, among them Indiana’s Miss Basketball. Five other all-state players are included to comprise the best of Indiana’s high school class of 1986.
Jimtown’s Kim (Barrier) McGuire was named the state’s 1986 Indiana Miss Basketball after averaging 30.0 points, setting 48 Jimtown High School records, and graduating as Elkhart County’s all-time leading scorer, boy or girl, with 1,827 points.
Other 1986 Indiana All-Stars on this year’s Silver Anniversary Team include Shelly Caplinger-Cherry, Jenny (Eckert) Zorger, Linda (Foote) Bivins, Eileen (Richardson) Strickland, Jeannette (Yeoman) Mosher, Leslie (Ferrell) Flechler, Linda Godby, Diane (Hoereth) Metz, Shannon (Freeman) Frogge, Julie (Goedde) Sellers, Erika (McCoy) Robinson, and Melissa (Standley) James.
The remaining five, named to various all-state teams are: Arneetrice Cobb, Chanda (Reeves) Cooley, Shelley (Roby) Foister, Y. Ute (Bowman) Otley, and Tracy (Hyatt) Steed.

2011 WOMEN’S CENTER CIRCLE OFFICIALS AWARD WINNERS

NEW CASTLE – The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame recognizes two men for their contribution as high school basketball officials as the 2011 Women’s Center Circle Officials Award winners.
Terry Magnuson of Greenwood and Michael S. Smith of Greenfield will be acknowledged for their officiating careers.
Terry Magnuson is a 1974 graduate of LaVille Jr. – Sr. High School where he earned 10 varsity letters in basketball, tennis, and baseball. He was a scholarship baseball player at Butler and graduated with his B.S. in education in 1978. He has officiated for 33 years and worked 19 girls’ sectionals, 14 regionals, seven semi-states and three girls’ state finals (1991, 1993, and 1996). He worked the 1991 Hall of Fame Classic, the 2004 Indiana – Kentucky All-Star series and was named the IHSAA’s outstanding girls’ basketball official in 1997. He also spent a number of years officiating NCAA Division I, II, and III womens’ basketball. He is a Past President of the Indiana Officials Association (1997-98), served as their treasurer from 1998-2002, and has served as their webmaster since 2001. The father of four, Mr. Magnuson is currently the Principal at Pleasant Crossing Elementary School in the Clark-Pleasant (Whiteland) School Corporation. He and his wife Debbie live in Greenwood.
Michael S. Smith is a 1958 graduate of Indianapolis Howe High School and current resident of Greenfield. He played basketball for four years at Howe and was leading scorer and team MVP his senior season. Smith began officiating at the age of 41 and worked 13 sectionals, 10 regionals, five semi-states and three state finals (1991, 1993, and 1995) in girls’ basketball. He also worked numerous boys’ tournaments, including the 1995 boys’ state finals. He officiated the Hall of Fame Classic four times in his career before retiring in 1995 and was named the IHSAA’s outstanding girls’ basketball official in 1998. He served as Vice President of the Indiana Officials Association and was a member of the Mid Hoosier Officials Association. Smith spent 26 years as an Indiana State Trooper and was employed with the Carmel-Clay Schools Transportation Department for over 15 years. He and his wife Carolyn have four daughters, Kendra, Kayann, Kari, and Kathryn.
All Women’s Silver Anniversary Team members and Center Circle Officials Award winners will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s Annual Women’s Banquet on Saturday, April 30, 2011.
