Terre Haute Women's Track

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Terre Haute North High School graduate Shaun Smith will be returning to Terre Haute next fall after signing a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Indiana State Sycamore men’s track & field team. Smith has competed at Vincennes University the past two seasons.

“He was the state champion in the 100 meters while a senior at North and has qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor and Outdoor National Championships as a freshman at Vincennes,” John McNichols, Indiana State men’s track & field coach said. “He will be a great addition to our long tradition of outstanding sprinters that have competed here.”

Also signing a National Letter of Intent to compete at Indiana State University starting next fall was Greggmar Swift, one of the best hurdlers while competing for St. Leonard’s Boys’ in Bridgetown, Barbados.

“He has a tremendous amount of international experience,” McNichols said. “And he just keeps getting better every year. He could become one of our all-time hurdlers and sprinters at Indiana State. He is a friend of Ernest Rollins who is our top triple jumper and also comes from Barbados.”

Smith has personal bests of 6.39 in the 55 meters and 6.92 in the 60 meters during indoor competition and 10.47 in the 100 meters and 21.86 in the 200 meters during outdoor competition. He was the sectional champion in both the 100 and 200 meters as a sophomore, junior, and senior at Terre Haute North, capturing both regional titles and won the state championship in the 100 meters as a senior in 2008.

Swift ran in the International Association of Athletics Federation World Junior Championships in 2008 and competed in the Pan Am Junior Games in 2009. He has already opened his outdoor season and set personal bests in the 100 meters (10.72) and the 110 meter hurdles (13.80) at the Joseph Payne Memorial Classic.
