FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis women’s soccer program has signed 11 incoming freshman for the 2010-11 school year and Lady Cougars’ coach Christy Young had a signing event at USF on Monday.
“With the team we have coming back and the addition of these 11 players, we feel good about improving on our record from last season and becoming serious contenders for the Mid-Central College Conference championship,” Young said.
Among the future Lady Cougars, Leo senior Alyssa Makridakis made it official committing to USF on Monday. She was a first-team All-ACAC selection after helping the Lions to 18-1 record in 2009. She had 34 goals in 2009 and set a Leo career record with 59 goals.

Rachel Bornhorst – Defender - Troy, Ohio / Troy High School
Rachel was a 2008 and 2009 GWOC 1st Team All Conference player. She earned 1st Team All-District honors in 2009 along with her team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player award. Rachel played for Dayton Soccer Academy (DSA 91) and has attended the Orange Classic Tournament. Academically, Rachel earned the Ohio Scholastic Coaches Association Academic Award. Her extracurricular activities include National Honor Society, Student Government, and Senior Cabinet.
Leah Campbell - Midfielder – Cincinnati, Ohio / Northwest High School
Leah was a FAVC 1st Team All Conference player in 2009. She was 1st Team All-League in 2006 as a freshman. Leah has been a 4 year varsity starter for Northwest High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and a varsity captain as a senior. She played club soccer for Westside Premier (U13 to U16) and Cincinnati United Premier (U17 to U18). Leah is also an elementary school tutor.
Abbie Christian – Goalkeeper – Fort Wayne, IN / Bishop Luers High School
Abbie was busy in goal for the Knights in fall 2009 finishing with 215 saves. She played varsity soccer all four years at Luers, was a captain in 2009 and was awarded the mental toughness award as a sophomore in 2007. She is a member of the honor roll and a 2010 Sterling Sentinel nominee. Abbie’s sister Katie will be a senior at USF in 2010-11 and is a starter on defense for USF.
Holly Durkee – Defender/Midfielder – Caledonia, MI / Caledonia High School
Holly was a 2008 and 2009 1st Team All-District player for Caledonia High School in Caledonia, Michigan. She was voted team captain both her junior and senior seasons. Holly is a member of the Grand Rapid Crew Juniors and played in the CSK Tournament in Iowa. Along with her athletic accomplishments, Holly is an Academic Award Winner. She is actively involved in Student Council, Holy Family Catholic Church’s Peer Ministry Team, and DECA.
Michelle Hochstetler – Defender – Shipshewana, IN / Westview High School
Michelle helped lead Westview High School to a Sectional Championship in 2008 and 2009, and a 2009 NECC title. She was a three-year Most Improved award winner and played in the 2009 1A/2A East/West All Star game. As a defender she helped her 2008 and 2009 Westview High School team compile 12 shut-outs and only allow 33 goals. She played for X-Treme and Northern Storm club teams. Michelle was a 4 year member of the Honor Roll and Vice President of NAHS. She is involved in 4-H, and Youth Group.
Ashlynn Jenkins – Defender – Leo, IN / Leo High School
Ashlynn is a three-year ACAC 1st Team All-Conference player and a two-year District 2 All-Academic Team selection. She was named the Lady Lions defensive MVP and the Top Team player. During her Leo career, Ashlynn scored six goals and assisted on 14. She is on the Principal Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, serves as editor-in-chief of the Leo High School newspaper and is a three-year member of the National Honors Society.
Kelcie Lehman – Forward – Nappanee, IN / NorthWood High School
Kelcie was a 2008 and 2009 NLC 1st Team All Conference player, and 2008 Honorable Mention All-NLC. She earned 1st Team All-District honors her senior year. Along with those accomplishments, Kelcie was named Team MVP in 2009. In her career Kelcie compiled 59 goals and 21 assists. Kelcie is a stand-out basketball player for Northwood High School and was All-NLC Honorable Mention in 2009. She plays club soccer for FC Indiana/EC United where she has attended the U18 Challenge Cup, U19 State Cup, and the Memorial Day Invitational. Kelcie earned a Freshman PE Award and is an active member of the 4-H Club.
Leah Little – Forward – Lafayette, IN / McCutcheon High School
Leah was a 2007 and 2008 HCC 1st Team All Conference player, and earned the HCC Sportsmanship Award in 2009. She earned Journal and Courier All Area Team honors all four years of her high school career. In 2008, Leah helped lead her team to an IHSAA Regional Championship. She scored 42 career goals and tallied 32 career assists. She plays club soccer for Tippco Soccer Club. She is also a standout on the varsity Dive team, and Track & Field team. Her academic accomplishments include: St. Elizabeth Regional Health Art and Hearts Award and the National Society of High School Scholars. She is involved in Maverick Student Mentors, Bullying/Diversity Committee, Student Council, Dress Code Committee, and Powder Puff Football.
Alyssa Makridakis – Forward – Leo, IN / Leo High School
Alyssa was an ACAC 1st Team All Conference player. She was also her team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player and team captain. In her high school career Alyssa had a school record of 59 goals in a career, 34 goals in a season, and 13 assists in a year. Her high school team had an overall season record of 18-1 in 2009. Alyssa is on the Honor Roll and a member of the SSH Club. She is active in her church’s youth group and a volunteer at DuPont Hospital.
Cori Nunley – Defender – Fort Wayne, IN / Snider High School
Cori was a 2-year Top Team Player for Snider High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. An injury at the beginning of this year prevented her from playing her senior season. Cori helped lead Snider High School to the State Final Four where they were runners-up in the state in 2007 and 2008. Cori has attended club tournaments such as the Dynamo Invitational, Warrior Cup, and State Cup. She was a member of the All-Academic Team and is actively involved in the 212 Youth Group.
Katelyn Strout – Midfielder – Carmel, IN / Carmel High School
Katelyn was an ICGSA 1st Team All-State player as a junior (2008-09) and All-District selection for the Greyhounds. She was also named MIC 1st Team All-Conference. An injury in a pre-season scrimmage kept Strout from playing her senior year (2009-10) for the Greyhounds, though she was a captain in 2009. Strout, who is 5-foot-7, finished with 10 goals and 11 assists for her high school career at Carmel.
